Sexual assault is a term that is used to describe rape, sexual intercourse/penetration without consent, forced sex, sex because of a fear of being hurt (threats), and so on. In other words, if you feel forced into having sex when you don't want to, this is SEXUAL ASSAULT. It as a crime and it is a very serious matter.
MINIMISE THE RISK
Sexual Assault can occur within relationships or by a stranger. To minimise your risk of sexual assault with a relationship, you need to communicate your feelings very clearly and remember that is OK at any stage to say "NO" to physical contact. It is also OK to change your mind at any stage of close physical relations.
To decrease your risk of sexual assault by a stranger, follow the usual safety rules when you go out: stay with a friend, look out for your friends, carry a mobile phone (charged), have a plan for getting home, have a back-up plan in case your arrangements fall apart, ensure that someone knows where you are at all times, and don't get drunk.
