Having trouble sleeping? Try the following:
- Develop a regular routine before going to bed (clean teeth, shower, read a book, go to bed) Do the same thing each night.
- Try having a warm cup of milk (make it chocolate if you'd prefer).
- Get enough exercise throughout the day to tire yourself out.
- If you are not sleeping, GET UP, do something to change your state of mind, go back to bed thinking, "I can go to sleep now."
- Avoid getting stressed about not sleeping. Try to relax.
- Try a relaxation technique such as tensing each muscle one at a time for about 10 seconds and then relaxing them. Start at the top of your body and work down to your toes.
- Do something relaxing before going to bed such as reading or watching television. Make sure your mind has had a chance to "switch off".
- If you continue to have trouble sleeping you should see your local doctor or school counsellor.
