Inside The Mind Of A Guy

Boys - they make us laugh, they make us cry - but what makes them tick??? What a Girl Needs chatted to an 18yr old personal trainer to gain some insight into the warped mind of the teenage bloke!

We asked Darren some questions and this is what he shared with us…

What do most guys look for in a girl?

This will vary from guy to guy. Generally I believe a guy is looking for an honest girl who is trustworthy. One who is understanding, caring and fun to be around. Furthermore, she'll have to make him know that he is the No.1 guy in her life (yes girls, we are jealous and forever will be).

Many girls are so concerned about their appearance. Is appearance a major thing guys look for?

It would be a lie to say that attraction doesn't play a role; I mean it is essential that there has to be an attraction to the outward appearance. However it is the attraction of her personality that shines through her appearance…A guy definitely doesn't look for girls who pack on make up. Less is more and the natural look can be really attractive. Appearance counts for nothing if the personality and character won't keep the relationship together! And lastly, girls, you are more beautiful than you think, so no more being so hard on yourselves ok?/

Some girls often struggle when talking to guys, do you have any tips for them?

  • Be confident. A guy is attracted to confidence whether he knows it or not.
  • As clichéd as it sounds - be yourself, being something else may work for a while but is far from a happy foundation for a fulfilling future relationship.
  • DON'T CARE SO MUCH - some girls worry so much if what they say will be correct or what he will think of what was just said. Most of the time we probably aren't listening that attentively, so if what your saying sounds sweet enough then we'll be happy.
  • Just listen to what he says and engage in the conversation, but don't be hanging on every word.

If there is a guy I like, how should I act around him? Should I let him know I'm interested?

Hmm, act the same as you normally would around anyone else, though you can go out of your way a little bit (and I stress a little bit) to show him you interested but nothing too much too early on. Just gauge how things are going and take it slow. Rushing in and coming on strong is not appealing and can be down right scary.

What do you think are the key things to remember when in a relationship?

Remember why you are in the relationship! Remember what commitment you made when you entered it. Focus on what keeps you together and not what sets you apart! Relationships weren't made to be 100% easy, but they aren't supposed to be all that difficult. Communication is the biggest aspect of any relationship. It will ensure you are both on the same page and both know where you are heading, as well as avoiding confusion about what each one is thinking.

It's the first date, and the typical female is a little nervous…do guys get nervous too? Any tips?

  • Yes, I'm sure every guy does to different degrees. If the first date is the 'getting to know you' date then its more nerve racking then the first date for the couple who've taken it super slow. Either way, we do get nervous - so you're not alone!
  • Tips, hmm, just breathe and if you are getting nervous just pretend in your mind that he's just another one of your friends and you'll find yourself calming down and enjoying the time more. And he'll enjoy the time more too!

Describe the nicest thing you have ever done for your girlfriend.

The nicest thing I have done for my girlfriend I guess is just in the small things that demonstrate sacrifice and time. Whether it is leaving work early to pick her up from the Sunshine Coast because she was having a bad day; making things for her or even just leaving notes in her room saying how much she means to me! I just like to show her how special she is to me.

So there you have it - some tips from an average Aussie bloke. Hope that gives you girls some insight into what goes on in the crazy minds of the male species!!

Great article

Hi Christie, that article was great fun to read! Guys really are different and somehow I don't think we'll ever really know what goes on in their minds. It was nice to hear their perspective on some issues that us girls are faced with. Keep up the great work. Look forward to reading more articles soon.
