Dress For Success!

If you are at that stage where you are looking for a job (perhaps to support your passion for gorgeous shoes?), you may need a few tips to help you get through the interview. Now, prospective employers can sometimes be a little intimidating. However, don't take it personally, they just have a job to do and that is, to find the right person for the job and probably in the shortest amount of time possible. So, in this case, first impressions DO count as you may only get fifteen minutes to impress!

Here are a few "DOS'' and "DON'TS'' to see you through…

  • DO arrive on time. You're better off getting there early and finding a coffee shop nearby to pass the time until your appointment. Any excuse for tardiness at this point in your career in not going to look good!

  • DON'T sit in the waiting room playing with your mobile phone or texting your girlfriends to tell them how nervous you are. Leave it at home this time.

  • DO dress neatly and conservatively. Leave the dangly earrings and the silver hipster belt for Saturday night! Invest in a nice pair of tailored pants or a skirt match it with a stylish shirt or sweater. Oh, and make sure your shoes are clean!

  • DON'T wear too much makeup. Again, you want to appear neat and polished, so natural-looking makeup is advised. Go ahead and wear your favourite lipstick…just not that hot pink and glittery one!

  • DO act confidently. If you don't feel confident, fake it!

  • DON'T be afraid to ask questions. Initiating conversation shows assertiveness and interest. It will help build a rapport with your interviewer…but remember to keep it professional. He/She doesn't want to know which movie you're going to see that night!

  • DO make sure your resume is up to date and professional. There are many websites which have examples of well-presented and organised resumes. Find one that you think looks concise and clear and just substitute your own details onto it!

And last, but definitely not least, SMILE! People are inspired when you radiate!!!! Good luck!!
