The Vanguard

Web Wanderings: 2 Hearts, Pete Wentz, whimsical fashion and model shoes!

2 Hearts

Kylie's comeback has come full circle with this preview of her forthcoming single "2 Hearts", and the album X that will follow it (download a sample mix of songs from the album here). This new song and clip sees Kylie taking a little inspiration from Marilyn Monroe, sporting short platinum blonde hair and sultry moves. You really have to admire Kylie's mental as well as physical strength, which saw her get through a battle with breast cancer to be in what is arguably the best shape of her career. She looks so healthy and beautiful!

Until the new album is released, get your Kylie fix watching the clip at MySpace, or by digging out your old Kylie CDs or mp3s and doing some fun lounge room dancing.

Pete Wentz

Call me crazy, and many of you who love the guy may, but I really didn't get the whole Pete Wentz phenomenon until last Saturday night, when I said to a friend while we were watching a Fall Out Boy clip on Rage: "Can someone please explain Pete Wentz to me… I just don't get it!!" I now know that he is more than just a member of a band, and actually more like a single-man industry, which is pretty admirable.

I really couldn't grasp his popularity at first, as he's not the lead singer of the band and, in my humble little opinion, is not the "hottest" guy around either, and girls just seem to go crazy for him. But now that I know more about him, I'm starting to understand the appeal. He seems like a smart boy, running Clandestine Industries, which distributes books and clothing and other merchandise, running a small film production company and record label, as well as penning a book whose title references a song by one of the best bands ever, The Smiths. It really is true that talent + smarts = hot!

Alannah Hill

Alannah Hill is one of Australia's most successful fashion designers, and it's not hard to see why. Her clothes and accessories are just gorgeous, making use of rich colour combinations, and feminine, fancy embellishments like lace, buttons and beads. Alannah's story, like her work, is also pretty inspirational. She moved Melbourne in her late teens to pursue a career in fashion, with no real idea of whether she'd be successful or not, yet she managed to make her dreams come true with a lot of hard work, determination, and a little bit of luck. Check out her web site; it's like an electronic wardrobe and jewellery box!

Gisele Bündchen's Ipanema Collection

Gisele Bündchen's Ipanema Collection of shoes launched at Novo shoe stores earlier this month, and some of the shoes are really quite cute and comfy. They're a lot snazzier than your average pair of thongs, and are the kind of shoes you'd get a lot of wear out of during the hot summer months, simply for their cool factor and also because the range offers a lot of different colour choices to match your favourite outfits.

If you're into Earthy tones, you'll find plenty of pairs to match your tastes, but if you're more into colour (think pink, blue and red) there's some cute pairs for you as well! Novo are definitely one shoe store worth checking out, as they always have the latest and greatest styles, as well as tres fab sales.

Cyber Bullying

Have you ever been hassled on your e-mail or had a rude text message sent to you? Cyber bullying is another form of bullying which is basically being teased, made fun of, having rumours sent out about you, "friends" saying things behind your back to others, and so on.

Web Wanderings: fashion, love and Kings of Leon!

Charming Kings

Those full-of-Southern-charm boys from Kings of Leon are doing the rounds promoting their latest album "Because Of The Times", and we're super-excited that they are coming to Australia in a few months to do their own shows! That's right, rather than playing strictly at festivals in most states as they've done in the past (which is not always great for us shorter, fairer skinned girls who can't stay out in the sun too long and can't see the bands for the hoards of taller people), the guys are set to wow us with their own, super-fab solo shows. Can't wait! We've already got out pre-sale tix, but tickets officially go on sale this Friday. Check their web site for deets.

CoutureCandy Fashion Blog

I love this celeb fashion blog from CoutureCandy.com. Every few days they post about the latest celeb fashion, and it's a great little read! You can find out what your favourites are currently swanning around town in, get a heads up on what is set to be the next big trend, and see the biggest fashion hits (and misses)! At the moment they're loving Mary-Kate Olsen's black gladiator sandals, Hilary Duff's embracement of orange, Mischa Barton's messy-cool up do, and the return of Alexander McQueen's skull scarf on Nicole Richie (I still love my Supré knock-off skull scarf; gives an edge to any outfit!).

Style.com

Style.com is all about New York Fashion Week right now, and browsing their site is almost like being a fly on the wall at the actual events; it's just so much more comfy to be spying from the comfort of your favourite chair at home! The site covers all the latest offerings from the big name and up and coming designers (including Gwen Stefani's much improved L.A.M.B. label, and Milla Jovovich's Jovovich-Hawk). There are also lots of lush photos and gossip from the front row and the parties (we loved the outfits chosen by Ashley Olsen, Sarah Jessica Parker, Mischa Barton and Amanda Peet), as well as street style from the models, writers, buyers and other people buzzing around this fashion Mecca.

Sunset Marquis

Now, it seems Courtney Love is one lady who seems to polarise opinions, but I would argue that many people only know the unflattering press portraits of Ms Love, without actually knowing all that much about the woman herself and, more importantly, her work. Courtney is streaming a new song on her MySpace entitled "Sunset Marquis" and I for one just can't stop listening to it! At the moment it's only in demo form, and features Courtney singing to piano accompaniment. It will be interesting to see what direction her new album takes when it finally comes out. I think it will sound a little bit 70s, and maybe a little bit Stevie Nicks-ish, which can only be a good thing!

Teen Forums at Health Before Beauty

Karen Fischer (nutritionist, writer and WAGN Inspiring Girlfriend) has a new forum on her web site, Health Before Beauty, especially for teens to discuss the health issues they are currently facing. Have your say on topics such as the pressures at high school to look a certain way, acne and weight issues, celebrities you admire, and where you get your health information from. There's also a forum to let Karen know what health and beauty topics you'd like to know more about, so get posting!

Song 4 Mutya

Most of this month's broadband download limit for me has been spent on the streaming of this gem of a song from Groove Armada, featuring ex-Sugababe Mutya Buena. "Song 4 Mutya" is instantly addictive, and Mutya's voice and giant gold hoop earrings fit it perfectly. The Sugababes just aren't the same without her, but with songs like this, maybe it's a good thing she left the band after all. Watch the video on YouTube or listen to the song on Mutya's or Groove Armada's MySpace pages.

Veggie Chic

If you're a vegetarian, or thinking about going veggie, then this blog is a good one to have a look at. Although essentially a look at being vegetarian from one girl's perspective, there is a lot of valuable general information on this site, as well as lots of informative categories that cover everything from becoming vegetarian, to great recipe ideas, how to eat out veggie-style (it's really not hard at all!), issues facing vegetarians travelling overseas, weight loss and more.
